Review The Great Hunt (The Wheel of Time #2)

The Great Hunt, the second book in Robert Jordan’s ambitious and sprawling series, The Wheel of Time, builds upon the foundations laid in the first book, The Eye of the World, with an increased sense of scale, deeper character development, and a more intricate plot. I read both books, and I feel like I’m getting increasingly into Jordan’s made-up world. In his world, it’s not always clear who’s good and bad, and he talks a lot about how things are meant to be versus how we choose to make them.

In The Great Hunt, Robert Jordan shows off his talent for making up worlds. The world in the Wheel of Time gets even bigger, with new places, people, and ways of doing things. He introduces us to the Seanchan, who are strong and have weird animals and do magic in their own special way. This makes the world even more complicated and interesting. Also, he tells us more about the Aes Sedai, who are magical people, and the politics of the White Tower where they live. This makes the story more exciting and important for the characters.

The main character Rand al’Thor has to deal with some big truths about who he is and what he’s supposed to do. Robert Jordan handles this really well, showing Rand’s struggle with power, responsibility, and being afraid of losing himself. It’s a story lots of people can relate to, even though it’s set in a fantasy world. And the other important characters like Mat, Perrin, Egwene, and Nynaeve also change a lot throughout the book. They go on their own journeys and their stories connect in surprising ways. Jordan is really good at making the characters feel real and showing how they grow and change.

The way the story is told is more complicated than before. Things happen quickly, with lots of different stories happening at the same time and coming together nicely. We get to see things from different characters’ points of view, which helps us understand what’s going on and who these characters are. It also makes the story more exciting because we know more than any one character does. But Robert Jordan still keeps some secrets from us, so there are some surprises along the way.

But The Great Hunt isn’t perfect. Sometimes, there’s so much detail and the world is so big that it might feel like too much. This could make the story feel like it’s going slower. Also, some parts might feel slower than others, especially when there’s not a lot of action happening.

So, The Great Hunt is a really good fantasy story that builds on what was good about the first book and fixes some of its problems. Robert Jordan made a sequel that not only makes his world bigger and more exciting but also makes his characters more interesting and complicated. If you liked the first book, you’ll definitely enjoy this one. And if you’re new to the series, I recommend that you read the first one first to understand story. I’ve read the first two books now, and I can’t wait to see what happens next in this amazing adventure.
